Like buying a house or a car, buying shipping containers can be a very pleasant experience or an absolute nightmare…
The first right step to do is to buy from a certified container dealer. There is no other single first step to avoid problems. On the flip side, buying from individuals, private parties, classifieds, and eBay-type purchases hold the top position for consumer complaints.
The next biggest issues, even from honorable certified container dealers, are simply misunderstanding and a lack of communication when buying.
1) Buy from a "certified dealer."
2) Let the dealer know your use of the container. Will it be used as a shipping container or an ISBU construction module? Does it need a current CSC inspection?
3) Understand the difference in quality, grade, and condition of ISO containers.
4) Be clear on the "delivery policy".
5) Are you ready for the delivery and placement of the container (s) when they arrive?
6) If you buy from the Internet or eBay, ask the dealer's true name and location. Some of our certified dealers also sell online using different names (dba). That's okay, but it's very appropriate to ask their true company name so you can check them out.
